Server racks for a data centre

I visited the place some time ago. It was not a little server room but rather one of those bigger data centres with lots of computers placed on high shelves. The room seemed to be rather cold and unpleasant, but I later found out that it was necessary to keep the whole system cool. After all, such an amount of equipment, which is working constantly, can get quite hot sometimes, this is why air conditioning and an additional cooling system was necessary. The man showed us one of the server racks. It had more than ten levels, I suppose, and it was quite wide too. All the computers situated there had no screens at all. There was just a little keyboard connected to the whole system. The man explained that the computers were operated from outside but some of the changes could also be introduced on the spot. Then he kept on telling us something about the cables and connections but I didn"t understand much. I am not a specialist in IT, you know. I looked around and saw two other huge server racks and a closed cabinet with some additional hardware inside. It was all really amazing. Of course, it was not one of the biggest data centres in the country, but it gave me an idea of what one of such places might actually look like.
